ODISSI Classical Dance originated in the temples of Orissa, India; evidence of which dates back to the 2nd century B.C.E.
This lyrical dance form based on the Natyashastra combines delicate or Lasya upper body movement with firm and solid or Taandav footwork, the juxtapositions combine to form the movements of the style. Orissi follows the three distinct variations in dance type known as Nritta, Nritya, and Abhinaya which can be defined as: pure, lyrical, and expressive.
