SCHEHERAZAAD COOPER is an Odissi Indian Classical Dance practitioner who has performed in Canada, the United States, India, the UK, and Australia.

Alongside training with her Gurumaa Dr. Ratna Roy (Olympia, USA), Scheherazaad also studies with Guru Aruna Mohanty of the Orissa Dance Academy (Orissa, India), Guru Bichitrananda Swain and Lingaraj Pradhan of Rudrakshya Dance Company (Orissa, India), and has trained with the Chitralekha Dance academy (Toronto, Canada).

While maintaining her classical dance practice, Scheherazaad has also participated in creative collaborations experimenting with and training in other performance styles. Some of her recent work includes: Touched/t2, a multimedia creation by Professor Henry Daniel (Simon Fraser University), Troika Ranch (New York) and other respected artists; the visual art installation Heaven's Breath by Chris Welsby and Brady Marks; an evening featuring Sufi vocalist Abida Parveen at the London Palladium; and a solo performance, Nayika, at both the Firehall Arts Centre and Goldsmiths University. She is a trained actor and currently the Artistic Director of the Interregnum 5 Dance Collective whose premier work, Embodied Language, debuted in the Resolution! series at London's The Place theatre.

With a strong commitment to aligning pedagogy and practice, she recently completed her MA in Performance and Culture in London, UK and is a recipient of the Canada Arts Council Grant for Dance Professionals with which she travelled to India for further training and research in March 2009. She is currently completing her doctorate in the UK.
